Heavy market-depth data, footprint charts, replay files and custom studies can turn a normal trading desktop into a resource bottleneck. The right Windows server depends on how many sessions you run and whether the workload is live execution, analysis or batch testing.
Quick answer: start with a properly sized Windows VPS for one or a few Sierra Chart sessions; choose a dedicated server for sustained multi-session order flow and predictable headroom; use an MT5 backtest farm for MetaTrader 5 optimization, not as a substitute for Sierra Chart hosting.
These options solve different infrastructure problems. A trading VPS and dedicated server host the Windows desktop and live application. A backtest farm is compute infrastructure for distributed MT5 testing.

A server closer to a data vendor or broker may offer a better route, but latency must be verified for your feed. Dedicated CPU cannot fix a distant network path.

You need exchange colocation, direct market-data infrastructure or exchange-level latency guarantees. A general Windows VPS or dedicated server is a different service category.

More advertised cores do not automatically make chart rendering or a study faster. Confirm the workload’s parallelism and single-thread behavior.

Move when you can measure sustained resource contention, need several concurrent sessions, require more predictable disk performance or want to isolate a heavy order-flow workload from other trading terminals. Review the workload before upgrading.
